Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Grace, Our Mentor of the Month

This month, we're shining our volunteer spotlight on Grace Wanjiku, who has been with Kindstep Foundation for two years and has made an incredible impact as a mentor in the Mathare community.

Grace's Journey

Grace first learned about Kindstep through a friend who was volunteering. "I've always had a passion for working with young people," she shares. "When I heard about the mentorship program, I knew it was where I needed to be."

Despite working full-time as a nurse, Grace dedicates every Saturday to her mentorship group. "These young people have so much potential. They just need someone to believe in them and guide them."

Impact Stories

One of Grace's mentees, 16-year-old Michael, credits her with helping him turn his life around. "I was getting into trouble before I met Grace. She didn't judge me—she saw something in me that I didn't see in myself. Now I'm focused on school and I want to study engineering."

Another mentee, 14-year-old Wanjiru, says, "Grace is like a big sister to me. I can talk to her about anything, and she always helps me find solutions to my problems."

The Ripple Effect

Grace's impact extends beyond her direct mentees. She has helped train three new mentors and often organizes community clean-up events with her group. "We're not just building individuals; we're building community," she says.

If Grace's story inspires you to become a mentor, we're always looking for dedicated volunteers. Visit our volunteer page to learn more.
